A South Texas Enclave, a Poem by John Grey

Updated: Feb 6, 2022

There’s a wall off in the distance

that keeps immigrants out,

as well as mountains

and the river.

And, on all sides off their house,

there are more walls,

high enough,

sturdy enough,

to make their next-door neighbors

feel like Mexicans.

John Grey is an Australian poet, US resident, recently published in Soundings East, Dalhousie Review and Connecticut River Review. Latest book, “Leaves On Pages” is available through Amazon.
