The Face of Tomorrow, a Poem by Nana Amma Adomaa Abrefa

We raise them, the face of tomorrow,

Our builders of the future we hail.

To be yielders of decadence, we nurture,

Slowly seeping into their infantile brains,

The decadent water of corruption, a little at a time.

We fertilize their virgin minds,

With unholy acts of debauchery.

Loudly we whisper the gains of corruption,

Splashing on tabloids the spoils of bribery,

And get-rich-quick schemes.

We teach them the shortcuts to fame,

Robbing the weak on the road to gain.

Intelligence and hard-earned gains we devalued,

While the 'end justifies the means' we revered.

Our rulers of the future, we arm them,

Training them to hurl insults like hailstorms.

Standing ovation for their monstrosities,

Rewarded for their atrocities,

The louder they shout, the bigger the titles bestowed.

Success applauded at the expense of substance.

We teach them not to serve but to be served,

Labeling humility as timidity,

Frowning upon meekness, worshiping arrogance.

Feeding the youth with the milk of deception,

Grooming them to believe the world owes them.

They hold the world at ransom,

This face of tomorrow lacks integrity.

Suddenly, we awaken to babies with sharp teeth,

Whose bite bleeds our nipple souls dry.

Woe to us, for we have groomed a decadent tomorrow.
